Unit U5 · Brand and presence

Design

A provider is chosen in under a minute, almost always before the first call. In that minute nobody evaluates what you do. They evaluate how you present it. This unit makes sure the second matches the first.

When you need it

Three signs your image is costing you money.

You do not send the link

You have a website and avoid sharing it with a serious prospect. When the organization itself dodges its own presence, the message already landed.

Every piece looks like a different company

The logo on the sign is not the one on the site, the brochure color is not the invoice color, and everyone builds their own graphics however they can.

Traffic arrives and nothing happens

There are visits but no enquiries. The site informs and never proposes: nobody knows what the next step is.

What it covers

From definition to a published site.

Brand strategy

Before anything is drawn

No visual decision is made until it is clear what is being said and to whom.

  • Who the organization speaks to and what it promises
  • What sets it apart from the three closest alternatives
  • Naming architecture: what is parent brand and what is service
  • Tone of voice, with written examples of what fits and what does not
  • Core messages, ready to use in any piece

Visual identity

The system, not just the logo

A logo on its own is not an identity. Coherence comes from the system around it.

  • Logo in vectors: horizontal, stacked and monogram
  • Positive, negative and single-ink versions
  • Palette with verified contrast for accessible reading
  • Typeface family and a defined size scale
  • Icons, photography treatment and applied examples

Digital presence

Built on top of the above

The site is not a separate project. It is the identity put to work.

  • Structure designed so the visitor knows what to do
  • Real copywriting, not filler to occupy space
  • Original design, never a purchased template
  • Fast loading and the technical base to rank in search
  • Measurement configured: which button works and which does not

Improvements and automation

So it also runs

Once the presence stands, the next step is taking work off the team.

  • Forms that land straight in the system, with no one retyping
  • Sign-ups, bookings and online payments
  • Automatic reply to every enquiry, same day
  • A dashboard showing where each enquiry came from
  • Content the team edits alone, without asking us

The method

Five stages, each approved before the next begins.

Nobody redoes a logo three times because the designer missed. It gets redone because drawing started before deciding what to say.

Brand and identity process
StageWhat happensWhat you approveDuration
DiscoveryInterviews with decision makers, review of what exists and of the market alternativesPositioning brief, one page1 week
TerritoryTwo or three distinct directions with palette, type and tone, still without a logoThe direction, before anything is drawn1 week
IdentityLogo built on the chosen direction, tested at full size and reducedThe mark and its versions2 weeks
PresenceStructure, copy and design of the site built on the identityEvery screen before it is coded2 to 4 weeks
HandoverBrand guidelines, source files, recorded training and launchThe full delivery1 week

The Territory stage is what avoids the classic problem. Direction is argued while changing it is still cheap, not once a logo exists and somebody has grown attached to it.

VDN Studio

The brand team inside the consultancy. It designs the identity and then keeps it: when the organization grows and needs a new piece, nobody has to explain the project from scratch.

What you receive

The delivery, file by file.

This goes in the proposal. If anything here is missing on handover day, the project is not closed.

Who this is for

Organizations that stopped looking like what they already are.

The pattern repeats: the operation grew, the image stayed at the founding stage, and today it signals something smaller than the organization actually is.

What we find

  • A logo made years ago by an acquaintance, with no source file
  • Three different shades depending on who made the piece
  • A site that informs but proposes no next step
  • Enquiries arrive through four channels and get lost in two
  • Every new piece is improvised from scratch

What we leave

  • Logo in vectors, every variant, with guidelines
  • One documented color and type system
  • A site with a clear path to the action that matters
  • Enquiries centralized and answered automatically
  • Templates so the team produces without losing coherence

Questions

We already have a logo and do not want to change it. Does this still apply?+

Yes, and it is a common case. The mark stays and we build the system it never had: palette, type, applications and guidelines. Often the logo is fine and the problem is that nothing was ever built around it.

Why is brand design charged separately from the site?+

Because they are different jobs and one governs the other. If identity gets decided during the build, every visual call is made in a hurry and the result serves that one site and nothing else. You can buy the site alone, but we will tell you what gets given up.

How many rounds of revisions are included?+

Two per stage. In practice that is enough because each stage is approved before the next: by the time you reach the logo we have already agreed direction, palette and tone. Extra rounds are quoted hourly and flagged in advance.

Is the design made by a person or by software?+

A person decides it and draws it. We use generative tools to explore directions quickly during Territory, and we always say so. The final mark is built in vectors, by hand, because it has to work at sixteen pixels and a generated image does not solve that.

Do you work with non-profits?+

Yes: foundations, associations, schools and faith communities. They tend to share the same picture — serious operation, dated image, manual processes — and the same underlying problem: the image signals less than the organization delivers.
